Firefox & Responsive Testing

Firefox logoSomeone notified me of a problem they were having testing a responsive site using Firefox. The site wasn't shrinking in the browser window. The media queries were in place, but nothing but the horizontal bar kept coming up. However, my Firefox (16) worked fine along with my other browsers. I did some digging around and found the reason behind this issue.

Basically, depending on what add-ons/extensions you have installed to make Firefox better, these may prevent you from testing your responsive site. The solution is to disable your add-ons until you find the one that's causing the problem. Or it could be Firefox's menu bar: you might have to change the way it's displayed to resolve this issue.

I can't say this is a bug in Firefox because desktop browsers were never designed to shrink that small. In the real world, only web developers do this for testing. So, if you're going to test responsive sites in Firefox, disable your add-ons, modify your menu, or use Chrome and IE9+ instead. Apart from my Android device, I also use two other tools below for responsive testing:

  • A bookmarklet by Victor Coulon - This will allow you to view your site in four general mobile sizes: iPad and iPhone (with both portrait and landscape).
  • Screenqueri.es - This will allow you to resize your site without resizing the browser window. This is much more effective for me because I set break points based off layout and not device widths.

Cost of service

Many services are already set at a fixed cost and are noted as such. These costs are based on the hourly rate of $60/hr. All other requests will be quoted before the work starts. Any additional requested will be billed at the hourly rate.

Payment Schedule

iKreator requires 50% of the service cost to start, 25% mid-project, and the remaining 25% is due at the project's completion date. The mid-project point could be the completion of the coding of the homepage and the beginning of the coding of the inner pages, or it could mean the start of adding content to each page, whichever is the case. If there is no viable mid-point, 50% will be due at the completion of the project.

Payment is made through PayPal which is a trusted third party gateway. We accept PayPal, credit card and debit card payments. We do not accept e-checks. Payments are made out to iKreator LLC

Refunds are provided under certain circumstances, as set forth below in section 7 of this Terms of Service Agreement. By confirming the order, the client agrees to pay us the agreed-upon amount for our services.

Completion Date

The project completion date is the number of days from the start of the project which are mentioned under each service at the top of the main service page, or the completion date is what the client and iKreator agree upon after an initial conversation.

Incomplete Content

In the event where the client requests that iKreator add content to their website, but iKreator does not receive all the content to complete the job by the project completion date, iKreator will close the project at the completion date. Once the client sends the remaining content, iKreator will restart the project and complete it. Once finalized, the remaining 25% (the last half of the final payment) + a 5% restart fee will be due.

No project files will be sent, uploaded or installed until the final payment is sent.

Refund Policy

We guarantee a refund for the following reasons:

A refund may be issued upon the confirmation of both parties. Refunds are issued within five (5) business days of the request for refund. No refund is issued if the request for the refund was received after theme files are delivered to the client, or after the installation of the product on the client's server.
